What is new in Torrevieja in 2026? Dique, Los Locos, Eras de la Sal and more

Several changes in Torrevieja are noticeable for visitors in 2026. We deliberately separate places that are already open from active construction and projects that are only expected to open later.

Dique de Levante: the walkway is open again while work continues around it

The Dique de Levante fully reopened to the public on 28 March 2026 after its renovation. The main walkway can therefore be used again.

Separate works are continuing on access points, technical systems, lighting, safety and nearby public areas. The key distinction is that the Dique itself is open, while adjoining areas may still change during the works.

Playa de Los Locos is getting a new promenade

The city awarded the seafront redevelopment in May for about €8.59 million. The project includes more than 1,100 metres of more pedestrian-oriented coastline, extra greenery and trees, seating areas, children's play and fitness zones, and improved beach access.

The works are planned over 18 months in four operational phases. The first section runs from Calle La Sal / Avenida La Purísima to Avenida de las Habaneras, so individual routes or access points may change during construction.

Eras de la Sal is becoming a larger cultural and museum area

Further stages of the Eras de la Sal project moved forward in 2026, including the future Museo del Mar y de la Sal, historic salt-industry buildings, new public spaces and a future Habaneras auditorium area by the sea.

This is a major city project, but the new complex is not fully open yet. We therefore describe the new elements as an active project rather than a finished attraction.

La Plasa is planned as a market plus food hall

Torrevieja's municipal market La Plasa is being comprehensively renovated. The plan combines a traditional fresh-food market with a gastronomic market; the concession was awarded in April 2026.

The city indicated late 2026 or early 2027 as a possible opening window, explicitly depending on construction progress. It should not yet be treated as a guaranteed finished attraction for a current trip.

Bus services and parking have already changed

The new city-bus network has been operating since 27 July 2026 and will continue to be introduced in phases. New cards, technology and fare elements are scheduled for later stages, so announced fares remain separate from prices that are definitely in force.

A provisional 7,048 m² car park on Avenida de la Estación has been open since 31 July. On the affected section of Calle Ramón Gallud, parking has again been allowed from 00:00 to 20:00 since 3 August, while it remains prohibited from 20:00 to 24:00.

Alto de la Casilla: a major family park is planned, but it is not a current attraction yet

Works for the future Parque Urbano Alto de la Casilla were awarded in 2026. Plans include around 30,000 m² of green space, a viewpoint towards the natural park and a large inclusive play area for up to 400 children.

After the award, the city referred to a start later in the summer and a possible spring 2027 completion if the schedule is met. Until completion is confirmed, we do not list it as a finished visitor recommendation.
