Alicante Airport to Torrevieja bus station by direct bus.
The simplest public-transport option is the direct intercity service between Alicante-Elche Airport and Torrevieja. Aena describes it as non-stop and gives an approximate journey time of 40 minutes. For the dates checked in September 2026, Avanza allows 60 minutes; use that longer allowance when planning your connection.

Which journey time should you use?
Aena describes the direct service as taking about 40 minutes. The Avanza examples checked on September 14, 2026 allowed 60 minutes from the airport. Those older examples are not a current timetable. Use the departure and arrival in official ticket sales for your travel date, with extra time for baggage collection, reaching the stop and check-in.
The airport coach runs directly to Torrevieja, not all the way to La Mata. Plan the onward journey separately and check both services for your date before relying on a connection.
Alicante Airport → Torrevieja
Take intercity service L40 to the Calle del Mar bus station. You do not need to go through Alicante city.
Bus station → La Mata
Continue by city bus or taxi to a suitable point in La Mata. Check the boarding stop, direction and operating hours separately.
Final stop → accommodation
La Mata has several beach access points. Your actual address determines where to get off and whether the final walk works with luggage.
The quick answer
Costa Azul / Avanza lists the service as intercity line L40 Torrevieja–Aeropuerto. The current official stop sheet shows only the two endpoints: Aeropuerto Alicante/Elche [EAT] and C/ del Mar, 40 (Estacion Torrevieja) [TRV].
This means you do not need to travel into Alicante city first. The airport service goes directly to Torrevieja bus station.
Line: L40
Type: intercity bus
Journey: non-stop
Approximate travel time: 60 minutes
Torrevieja arrival: C/ del Mar, 40 – Estacion Torrevieja
At Alicante-Elche Airport: look for the intercity service
Aena places the city and intercity bus stop at the passenger terminal on level 2, on the departures roadway. Follow the airport bus signs and check that the service is for Torrevieja / Costa Azul. The C6 goes to Alicante city, not Torrevieja.
This location comes from Aena's bus information and linked interactive map, checked online on 26 September 2026. It does not confirm a particular bay number. Follow the current signs at the airport; this was not an on-site inspection.
The official L40 stop sheet identifies the Torrevieja endpoint as C/ del Mar, 40 (Estacion Torrevieja) [TRV]. This is the intercity bus station in central Torrevieja.
If you continue by a Torrevieja city bus afterwards, treat that as a separate transport system. Do not assume that an urban line departs from the same stop or bay as the intercity coach.
Tickets and fares
Prices and times below are dated examples, not today's timetable. Use the ticket seller's information for your actual travel date.
In Avanza’s booking system, checked on 14 September 2026, a single ticket cost €7 for the sample dates below. Choose AERP. ALIC/ELCHE and TORREVIEJA BUS in the official booking form, then your travel date. The final price and available departures shown there apply to your trip.
First and last bus: dated examples
From the airport on Tuesday 15 September 2026: first departure 07:20, last 21:30. On Saturday 19 September: first 08:00, last 21:00. From Torrevieja to the airport on 15 September: first 06:30, last 20:30. These are dated examples, not a timetable for every weekday or weekend.
Journey time and connections
Avanza schedules 60 minutes from the airport on both sample dates and 50–60 minutes in the reverse direction. Aena’s general page still says about 40 minutes. Use the departure and arrival on your ticket; leave additional time for baggage, walking to the stop and airport check-in.
Return journey and late arrivals
The town hall confirms that advance tickets from Torrevieja to the airport are also sold at the bus station. Its pedestrian entrance is Calle del Mar, 40; Calle Antonio Machado, 137 is the vehicle entrance. The station has taxis and toilets. For a late landing, check the last bus for your date before travelling and arrange a taxi or transfer if you cannot reach it.
Before flying: prepare both parts of the journey
Do not pick a coach using your landing time alone. You still have to leave the aircraft, possibly clear passport control, collect bags and reach the departures roadway. The time needed depends on your flight and the situation at the airport. We cannot promise a safe connection based on a fixed allowance.
Open official ticket sales, select AERP. ALIC/ELCHE → TORREVIEJA BUS and your date. Check departure, arrival, final price and ticket conditions before paying.
Then plan Torrevieja bus station → your accommodation. A beach map pin is not a hotel address, and the planner does not confirm a particular bus departure.
Keep the purchased ticket and accommodation address somewhere you can access without a connection. Ask your host about access and late check-in beforehand. This guide itself is not available offline.
The airport bus takes you to the bus station, not directly to every beach or accommodation. These three destinations help you plan the next part of the journey.
Routes start at the Calle del Mar bus station. The destinations are reference points, not hotel addresses. Change the destination to your accommodation in the planner. Bus departures are not live; check the current timetable and boarding stop separately.
Paseo Juan Aparicio
Paseo Juan Aparicio is on the central seafront promenade. Use it as a destination for a waterfront walk; with luggage, your exact accommodation is a more useful destination.
La Mata is a long beach with several access points. The map point is not necessarily the best arrival point for your accommodation. Check your exact destination before continuing.
The town hall gives Calle del Mar, 40 as the pedestrian entrance. Calle Antonio Machado, 137 is the vehicle entrance. It also lists a taxi rank and toilets.
Torrevieja bus station to La Mata: choose the right connection
After getting off in Torrevieja, use the pedestrian entrance on Calle del Mar, 40 as your reference. Do not assume your city bus leaves from the L40 arrival bay. This is a separate service; we have not confirmed a through ticket or guaranteed connection.
Direction matters: in the checked route 08 stop list, Estación de Autobuses appears on the return journey from La Mata. Outbound towards C/ Mayor, 59, Avanza lists stops including C/ Ramón Gallud, 106 and C/ Fuensanta, 3. You first need to reach a suitable city-bus boarding stop. We have not verified the walking time from the station to those stops.
Route 07 also heads towards C/ Mayor, 59 in La Mata, but takes a different route, including C/ Apolo, 66 and Av. París. Your boarding and alighting stops must both appear on the selected route in the correct direction. Check that stop sequence first, then the timetable for your day; this guide does not confirm a particular connecting departure.
The link below starts at the bus station and ends at a beach reference point in La Mata. Use it to understand the journey, then replace the destination with your actual address when travelling with bags. Check the walk from the final stop to your door: an address in southern La Mata may need a different stop from one in the village centre.
If the suitable city bus has finished or the final walk is impractical with luggage, a taxi from the bus station may be the simpler last leg. Confirm the price, vehicle size, child seats and any particular needs before travelling. We cannot guarantee a fixed fare or an immediately available vehicle.
Travelling with bags, children or reduced mobility
Airline baggage rules do not automatically apply to the coach. We have not verified an L40 luggage allowance, pushchair policy or wheelchair-access guarantee. Ask Costa Azul / Avanza before buying a ticket if you have large cases, sports equipment, a non-folding pushchair or a wheelchair.
Specify the service and travel date, along with dimensions or the assistance you need where relevant. Ask whether advance notice is required and how boarding works. Check the city bus to La Mata separately: confirmation for the airport coach does not automatically cover it.
With young children, consider the whole journey: changing vehicles, waiting and walking from the last stop. Compare bus tickets for your actual group with a transfer quote, including bags and any child seats needed. Booking airport assistance does not confirm access to the onward bus.
Aena asks for airport assistance requests at least 48 hours before scheduled flight departure. Agree the meeting point and support with your airline or Aena; arrange the onward bus journey separately.
Before travelling, check the last bookable L40 service for your date and then the onward journey to La Mata. The September examples in this guide are not a daily timetable. Even when an airport coach still runs, your city-bus connection may have finished.
If your flight is delayed, recheck ticket conditions and the services you can actually reach. Do not assume the coach will wait for your flight or that a missed ticket is automatically valid on the next departure. We cannot confirm those conditions here.
If no workable bus journey remains, arrange a taxi or a confirmed transfer to your accommodation. For a booked transfer, agree how flight delays, waiting time and the meeting point are handled. Do not take the C6 to Alicante on the off chance: it takes you to a different city without giving you a confirmed connection to Torrevieja.
Start with the airport arrival time required by your airline, not your flight departure. Choose a Torrevieja → airport L40 service that arrives in time, then work out how to reach the bus station from your accommodation. A bus timetable does not guarantee that you will catch a flight.
The complete trip includes walking to the first stop, waiting, the city-bus or taxi journey, changing in Torrevieja and the airport coach. Add your own allowance for delays. The L40 journey-time examples do not represent this entire door-to-terminal journey.
Check each direction separately. Route 08 lists C/ Antonio Machado, 137 (Est. Autobuses) on its return journey. That is a city-bus stop, not advice to walk through the station's vehicle entrance: the pedestrian entrance remains Calle del Mar, 40. Check the actual walk to your airport coach boarding point.
If the current timetable offers no suitable early connection or timely L40 arrival, arrange another confirmed way to reach the airport. Do not rely on an assumed early bus.
