Torre de La Mata: coastal defence, salt history and the old embarcadero
This is not Torre del Moro. Torre de La Mata is the more historical stop, linking coastal defence with the salt trade and the former loading jetty.

What is the history?
The circular masonry tower formed part of the coastal watch and defence system. Turismo Torrevieja places this type of defensive tower in the 15th and 16th centuries and links the site to protection of the saltworks and old jetty.
What can you visit today?
The tower is currently listed as closed. Plaza del Embarcadero is open 24 hours, and remains of the former jetty can still be seen nearby.
Torre de La Mata or Torre del Moro?
Torre del Moro is better for broad coastal views. Torre de La Mata is more useful for understanding La Mata's maritime and salt history and combines well with the beach and Senda Peatonal.
