Plan the journey

Getting to Torrevieja, then getting around without stress.

For many travellers, Torrevieja starts at Alicante-Elche airport. Whether you need a rental car, direct bus or transfer depends more on your plans than on one universal answer.

Alicante-Elche airport

Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández is the nearest airport and official Torrevieja tourism information puts it at roughly 40 minutes by car. There is also a direct daily bus connection between the airport and Torrevieja.

Do you need a car?

If your stay is mostly centre, beach and promenade, a car is not automatically necessary. It becomes much more useful for frequent day trips around the region. The trade-off is parking, especially in the high season.

Local buses

Torrevieja introduced a reorganised city bus network on 27 July 2026, with one circular route, eight other daytime routes and three night routes. Because the system is still being rolled out, use the current official network information for a specific journey.

Parking

Parking rules and available areas have changed during the 2026 city and harbour works. Check current signs and our dated parking guide rather than relying on an older map or blog post.

Sources & transparency

For current information, we prefer official primary sources and clearly separate plans from changes that are already in place.
